PROJECT

Exhibition: Focal Points: Minimal vs Maximal

Address: FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel at 1100 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Request: For art in every medium that implements dynamic and engaging forms of Minimalism or Maximalism.

OVERVIEW

FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel regularly presents exhibitions based on a 360-degree view of arts and culture that includes all of the traditional mediums of art such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, fiber art, printmaking, etc., as well as video art, film, fashion, performance, music and much more!

As part of this next four-month cycle of exhibition programming, FOUND:RE Contemporary is inviting artists to submit works to be included in the hotel-wide exhibition “Focal Points: Minimal vs Maximal." This survey of talent from across the state of Arizona is meant to showcase imagery that embodies the art movement of Maximalism or Minimalism.

A limited number of artists will also be awarded a solo exhibition, a two-person exhibition or a three-person exhibition in the free-standing FOUND:RE Contemporary gallery on Portland Street. All of the works selected for exhibitions are for sale and will be represented on the gallery website for purchase by hotel patrons and art collectors from across the nation.

For “Focal Points: Minimal vs Maximal" FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel will use the entire property to showcase the works that are selected for this exhibition. This diverse survey embraces the strengths of both art movements and is intended to illustrate how we build up and break down the world around us, challenging the way we see and changing our perspective.

Art Tours of “Focal Points: Minimal vs Maximal" will be scheduled throughout the course of the exhibition, with online reservations available through foundrecontemporary.com

Additionally, each participating artist in “Focal Points: Minimal vs Maximal" will have the chance to win a staycation at the FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel.

BACKGROUND

FOUND:RE Contemporary (“FC”) is a premier commercial gallery space in the heart of downtown Phoenix. It represents both emerging and established artists through a regular series of monthly exhibitions and special events that happen in conjunction with the art programming at FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel. FC comprises three galleries, an art lounge, a number of exhibition halls and auxiliary spaces which include mural walls, a sculpture yard, and much more.

Located in the Roosevelt Row Arts district, FC is a part of every First and Third Friday Artwalk, as well as being a destination location for art lovers throughout the greater Phoenix metro area. FC exhibits visual art as well film, fashion, music, and the entire spectrum of cultural production today.

The Installation: This hotel-wide installation at FOUND:RE is intended to “Wow” the patrons of the hotel and art collectors alike. The selection of work will be unique to the spaces at FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel where the exhibition halls and galleries are as large as a major museum. A dynamic selection of works and mediums will be included in this exhibition, where the inspiration and skill behind each and every piece are sure to make FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel into the perfect place for a staycation as well as an inspired destination for people from around the nation.

Legal: Selected artist(s) will permit the photography of artworks, including use in promotional materials. All reasonable effort will be made to credit the artist in promotions and when communicating with the media. Being accepted in the show is only a commitment to have the works in the show represented for sale and any further terms and conditions about representation will be negotiated by the hotel curator and the artist.

Content: This open call is to identify artists who make Minimalism or Maximalism art who want to exhibit at the FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel, or who are looking for representation by FOUND:RE Contemporary. From the  serene to the stimulating, Artists are encouraged to submit works that  invite the viewer's eyes to focus on quiet or loud compositions, serene  or intense visual experiences.

Works included in the show can range from ultimate simplification and  monochromatic tones to representational works depicting ornate detail or  loud, vibrant color palettes or patterns. A wide range of subject  matter and concepts will be considered. Artists whose work regularly  depicts aspects of Minimalism or Maximalism are strongly encouraged to  apply.
